Our Beginning

Summit & Pine Outfitters was founded in 2014 by two siblings who grew up hiking the Pisgah National Forest. After years of recommending favorite gear to friends, they decided to open a small storefront in downtown Asheville. The shop has been there ever since, tucked between a coffee roaster and a vintage bookstore on Pinecrest Drive.

What sets us apart isn’t a slogan. It’s the simple fact that everyone working the floor has spent at least one full season living out of a pack. We know what holds up and what falls apart on day six of a thru-hike.

What We Care About

Repairability

We prioritize brands that publish repair guides and supply replacement parts. Throwaway gear has no place on our shelves.

Local Partnerships

Roughly a third of our inventory comes from makers within a day’s drive of the shop. We like knowing the people who make what we sell.

Real Advice

We’ll happily steer you toward a less expensive option if it suits your trip better. Honesty keeps customers coming back.

The Team

There are seven of us. A former wilderness EMT, two long-trail hikers, a climbing instructor, a retired surveyor who handles our maps, a buyer who can’t sit still, and a very patient golden retriever named Hazel who greets everyone at the door.

If you stop by the shop, ask for whoever is around. Chances are good they have an opinion on whatever you’re considering.
